| The Christy O’Connor golf course has large bodies of water and meandering watercourses that will test players all the way to the eighteenth. Perfectly complementing the Faldo Course, whilst taking advantage of the rich valley soil, in contrast to the arid hillside, the Christy O'Connor course offers no less of a challenge, requiring accurate play. The Christy O’Connor and the Nick Faldo golf courses have two very different sites, with Faldo's being more hilly with a lot of trees, bushes etc. and O’connor’s down on what you may call the water plain where in olden times huge storms would come through. The front nine holes encounter a number of lakes, the 3rd being recognized by a Moorish relic situated on a island in the adjacent lake. Holes 7, 8 and 9 offer a particular challenge, where the water hazards could force a lack of concentration. Hole 10 leads play away from the northern boundary, setting up the challenge for the inward nine. The Christy O’Connor golf course is set in an area with a rich reputation for producing orange groves and O'Connor wanted to explore this specificity. He created the fifth where there are orange groves left and right, it is a real beauty to play. There is also a huge orange grove off to the left on the fourth hole Large areas of water on the seventh and ninth demand accurate play and creative shot making. These lakes and streams are to be maintained as a wildlife sanctuary. Christie's 18th hole brings the course to a fantastic finish, players are required to drive with pinpoint accuracy to assault the hillside in front of the clubhouse with the river running along the right hand side. To set up the approach shot to a two-tier green benched into the hillside. http://www.oceanicogolf.com/courses/algarve/oconnor_course/index.html |
